The Laboratory for Integrated Genomics advances genomics and single-cell omics research while providing core facility functions for proteomics and flow cytometry. For single-cell transcriptomics, we handle the entire process end-to-end, from library preparation and sequencing of cell samples to generating data, and then processing this high-dimensional data through bioinformatics to make it interpretable. This includes elucidating the role of TLR7 responses in glomerular macrophages in glomerulonephritis caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (Tanaka et al. Int Immunol), cross-sectional and longitudinal multi-omics cohort analysis of atopic dermatitis (Fukushima-Nomura et al. Nat Commun), and the discovery that melanocyte stem cells and their niche cooperatively determine individual stem cell fates via antagonistic stress response pathways depending on the type of genotoxic damage incurred (Mohri et al. Nat Cell Biol).

Furthermore, the Non-Human Scientist Project, launched last year, which integrates reinforcement learning and world models—cutting-edge AI—with experimental automation, has steadily advanced the acquisition of foundational data and filed a patent application for its core algorithm.

The Advanced Multi-Omics Technology Division was established in April 2025. Proteomics activity is currently transitioning to the Proteomics Unit, and flow cytometry activity is transitioning to the Cell Function Analysis Support Unit.
