About the Program

IMS PI seminar is a monthly seminar series which aims to foster scientific exchange between IMS laboratories on their latest findings and technologies, and to educate each other in their fields of expertise. IMS covers wide fields focusing on human health and disease, ranging from human genetics, transcriptomics, and non-coding genome elements, to immunology, cancer, epigenetics, structural biology, and metabolism, layered with latest technologies in the next generation sequencing, proteomics, lipidomics, microbiome, and systems biology, as well as platforms for therapeutic discovery and bioethics research. To maximize scientific exchange, speakers are asked to present their own research to non-experts, and audience are expected to engage in active discussions. While challenging, the speakers and audiences benefit from learning new fields, generating new ideas, and expanding their scientific horizons.

The new cycle of seminar was started in June 2024, and continued during FY2025. In April 2025, we also welcomed new members to IMS including PIs in the field of structural biology (formerly part of RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research) and predictive medicine (formerly part of RIKEN Information R&D and Strategy Headquarters). Our seminar series focused mainly on these two new fields to help facilitate new interactions within IMS. We hope to continue making improvements to maximize scientific exchanges, which ultimately feeds back to our mission of more comprehensive understanding of human disease and promotion of healthier society.
