About the Program

The 11th RIKEN-KI-SciLifeLab Symposium: Multimodal Fusion and Data Integration in Multi-Omics, Imaging, and Medical Data & Karolinska Institutet ‒ RIKEN Joint International Doctoral Course 2025 were held at RIKEN Yokohama Campus on Oct 1st (Symposium) and Oct 2th - Oct 8th (Course), respectively.

The symposium series is organized between RIKEN in Japan, and the Karolinska Institute (KI) and SciLifeLab in Sweden. The symposia alternate between RIKEN and SciLifeLab/KI. This symposium event, which is part of the RIKEN-KI-SciLifeLab Symposium Series, was organized on the topic of "Multimodal Fusion and Data Integration in Multi-Omics, Imaging, and Medical Data" and brought together experts to explore the integration of multi-dimensional omics datasets and highlight the integrative aspect of their work and how it helped in understanding biology and medical sciences. The 2025 symposium expanded collaboration within RIKEN to include RIKEN BDR and RIKEN CBS in addition to RIKEN IMS.

This year the course gathered 33 students from KI, RIKEN and Japanese universities. This program focused on bioinformatics (e.g. transcriptomics, epigenomics, single-cell genomics, etc.) and required the participants to work in groups on bioinformatics data analysis techniques, derived from handpicked published projects, spanning areas such as transcriptomics, genetics, epigenomics, and single-cell genomics studies among others, all under the supervision of individual teachers. At the last day of the course the participants presented to summarize their results.
